HOME POWER ASSESSMENT

Home Backup
Power Planner

Tell us how your home runs. We’ll show you a smart starting point—and how managing larger appliances can change it.

01

Your home

Start with the essentials. These details set the baseline for your estimate.

Starting example: 2,000 square feet. Change this to match your home. We include a basic allowance for everyday electrical needs.

Your kitchen appliances

Select what you use. Refrigerators and freezers can be added by quantity.

0 selected

We’ll include a basic kitchen allowance even if you select fewer than two. Add electric ranges and ovens below.

02

Larger appliances

What do you want to prioritize during an outage? Pick each appliance, then mark it Must have, Like to have, or Not needed.

Choose what you want to power

Select each appliance. Sizes and priorities appear below. Air conditioners default to 4 tons.

“Must have” appliances are always powered and set your generator size. “Like to have” and “Not needed” appliances are handled by load management—they run when there’s power to spare.
03

Electric car charging

Tell us if you have a car charger. A 22 kW recommendation becomes 26 kW; other recommendations stay the same.

A charger upgrades a 22 kW recommendation to 26 kW. We’ll discuss when to charge during an outage.

04

Special power needs

Is there anything at home that must stay powered? Tell us here so we can plan around it.

Home medical equipment such as a dialysis machine, oxygen concentrator, and CPAP

This doesn’t change your estimate. It helps our team plan your home visit.

How this estimate works

We include a basic allowance for everyday electrical needs, then consider the appliances you select. During our home visit, we’ll confirm what your home needs.

We add 3 watts per square foot plus 1,500 W per kitchen and branch circuit, count the first 3,000 W in full and 35% of the rest, then add your “Must have” appliances at full wattage. “Like to have” and “Not needed” appliances are managed load and are not included. 22 kW supports up to two air conditioners; more than two or a load over 20 kW moves you to 26 kW. A car charger upgrades only an otherwise 22 kW recommendation to 26 kW.

This is an educational estimate, not a code load calculation, installation design, or guarantee of generator capacity. Actual ratings, fuel-specific output, motor starting, and how appliances operate together determine the final selection.
